Training Focus Explained: January 20th - March 2025

Training Cycle Highlights:

Our next 10-week cycle, running from January 20 to March 31, 2025, is all about building longevity through smart, balanced programming. We're focusing on the 80/20 rule, dedicating 80% to aerobic base work and 20% to high-intensity efforts. Two strength days will feature increased volume with Front Squats and Push Presses, while accessory work follows a Push-Pull-Legs (PPL) split, including core-focused exercises to complement our aerobic training. We're also adding Olympic lifting technique work once a week, plus sandbags and sleds for functional fitness. This cycle is designed to keep you strong, fit, and built to last! Together, they create a well-rounded 6-day microcycle designed to improve your strength, endurance, and overall fitness.

Welcome to the latest training cycle at TrainFTW! Starting Jan 20th, we’re rolling out exciting updates to elevate your fitness journey over the next 10 weeks.

Starting January 20th - March 31, 2025

Here’s how it looks in our 6-day training template (every Sunday is a mobility day and ever Thursday is active rest):

Day 1: Lower body strength day + lower body accessory work.

Day 2: Aerobic run + lower leg accessory work.

Day 3: High-intensity HIIT = VO2Max training day + abs.

Day 4: Upper body strength day + pushing accessory work

Day 5: High intensity (CrossFit style) + pulling accessory work.

Day 6: Aerobic 5K row + abs accessory work.

This "focus" means that these elements will be seen more regularly in the microcycle template than you would normally see in a general fitness program. Our microcycle is 6 training days. In addition to our subscriber's request for these elements, we are prepping for longevity and real-world endeavors this fall and winter.

At 46, Matt has spent 38 years dedicated to training, pushing his body to the limit as an athlete, coach, and competitor. But by 2018, the wear and tear began to show. Overuse injuries, long hours in the gym, and dwindling motivation left Matt searching for a smarter approach. He needed a program tailored to his life—a lifelong athlete who wanted to maintain his gains, avoid burnout, and keep his body moving well for decades to come. Fed up with programs that prioritized intensity over longevity, Matt set out to create something better.

With over 16 years of programming and coaching experience, Matt built TrainFTW—a program designed for himself and others like him: career firefighters, outdoor enthusiasts, and everyday athletes who want to stay strong, healthy, and, let’s be real, look good naked.
